Paul Instrument Fund

Grants are awarded for the design, construction and maintenance of novel, unusual or much improved types of physical instruments and apparatus needed for an investigation in pure or applied physical science.

Eligibility
Persons working in the UK who are British subjects, or domiciled or ordinarily resident in the UK.

Purpose of grant
Grants are made for, or towards the cost of design and construction of instruments and apparatus, building facilities, salaries, incidental expenses, running and maintenance costs and for commercially available apparatus needed in connection with new apparatus for which the grant is intended. Priority is given to applications with a large element of originality such as the construction of an instrument based on a physical principle which has not previously been made use of in this, or a similar way. Grants may not be used to relieve expenditure in a government controlled establishment, nor to relieve any university or educational establishment of its normal financial obligations.

How to apply
Application forms and details are available from the Royal Society.

Closing dates:
15 January, 15 May, 15 September
