Purpose of grant

Grants are made as a contribution to international fares, registration and subsistence, and childcare when appropriate, for up to seven days to enable applicants to participate in conferences overseas and make auxiliary visits to scientific institutions.

Awards are calculated according to a formula which takes into consideration the location of the meeting and the length of stay.

The main inadmissible costs are:
fares and subsistence for attending training courses
fares for travel within the UK
expenses due to the late cancellation of travelling arrangements
insurance

Where any of the proposed research involves the use of animals applicants must be in compliance with the Royal Society's policy on the funding of research involving animals and the publication of the results of such research. http://www.royalsoc.ac.uk/st_pol48.htm
