The Charity was founded in 1985 by the then Provincial Grand Master, R.W. Bro. Thomas Bennett Langton, which accounts for it's alternative title of "The Tom Langton Fund."
It was established to create contacts between Lodges in the Province and the general public, by supporting local, non-Masonic causes not covered by other Masonic Charities. A list of recent grants, included in the Provincial Year Book, gives an indication of the types of organisations that are assisted. A copy of the Year Book is held by all Lodge Secretaries and includes the names and details of all Group Charity Representatives.
Following the recent Mini-Festival, the Charity now has capital of £500,000 generating income of approximately £25,000 per year for distribution. The Charity's Committee itself is not authorised to make donations but relies on members of Lodges within the Province to identify suitable organisations worthy of a grant. If you are a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Mason and know of such a group contact your Group Charity Representative who will provide you with an application form. Advice on completing the form, and who to send it to, is listed on the back of the form.
To date, the Charity has distributed more than £190,000 to more than 430 organisations. The work of the Charity brings much credit to the Craft and great satisfaction to those involved in it.
