Esoterism and Symbolism

The Italian Freemasonry Communion :

...follows the Symbolism in the teaching and the Esoterism in the
Ars Regia...

(Art.5 of the Order Constitution)

In the origins, at the Pitagora times, the term Esoterism was not explained, but rather opposed to the term Exoterism, which was including everything that it was possible to communicate to men that have not received an Initiation. For these reasons the Esoterism is pertaining to all that is impossible to communicate but only directly experienced.

As it is not possible to directly communicate the esoteric experiences through the normal language concepts, it follows that, necessarily, one must resort in the teaching to indirect methods, essentially based on the Symbolism.
