I enjoyed your site even though I am not a PH Mason. I am a first degree mason and I am still learning about the craft and this whole thing about PH not being recognized by other masons is stupid, we are all masons and need to stop fighting and practice real masonic brother. We all need to look towards the light and ask ourselves are we really acting like real masons or what.....
I thank you for the knowledge you have put at the fingertips of many people about the realm of Masonry. Keep up the good work and keep updating the site.

I appreciate all masonic activity, I have read the confession statement and to be honest I don't understand. I have been a "regular" mason for about 10 years and have a few prince hall brothers that I can sit with in lodge, as long as the juristiction that their affiliation comes from is recognized by my grand lodge. After a long discussion with my Grand Master I learned that certain juristictions of Prince Hall have not recognized my juristiction and vice versa. This sounds like a standoff to me. I accept every mason as my brother, does that make my use of brother a social reference? I have absolutly no reason to ask of a Mason if his juristiction is recognized by mine nor do I ever ask if my juristiction is recognized by his. Yet I know that in some places I am not able to sit in a lodge, Prince Hall or otherwise, because of juristictional relations.

I AM WRITING TO LET YOU KNO THAT YOUR WEB SITE IS A GREAT AND WONDERFUL WAY FOR BRETHREN TO KEEP UP WITH WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE TRAVELING WORLD. AND AN OUTSTANDING WAY FOR US TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH ONE ANOTHER, AND ALSO HELP BRING PEOPLE FROM THE DARKNESS INTO THE LIGHT. I HOPE THAT YOU KEEP UP THE WEB PAGE THE GOOD WORK AND MAY GOD BE WITH YOU.
Greetings and Best Wishes:
I am thrilled that you have this WEB PAGE. It offers an opportunity for Masons to enjoy comments from Brothers across the globe who may be willing to share some insight and light on information of a Masonic nature. I also would like to suscribe to the Phylaxis Newsletter. There is a need for relevant information in everything we do in our lives and I find that the more I seek information regarding Masonry the more interested I become in compiling my Masonic Library. If you have a bibliography of Masonic authors that is available I would appreciate receiving it perhaps you could publish it in your magazine. In any event keep on keeping on with your fine work in maintaining this web page, I look forward to enjoying any new items of interest that you may incorporate in the future.

I am very impressed with this Web page and the work of Bro. Joseph A. Walkes Jr. However, I have question about: Black Square & Compass 200 years of Prince Hall Freemasonry where his research confirms W.E.B Dubois' membership in the craft. Having read Dr. Dubois' autobiography he made mention of having been a member of a "graduate fraternity" but, I have yet to find anything to indicate his membership in the craft. Could you shed some light on this subject for a young brother in masonry. Brother Stephen J. Valentine, Philadelphia Lodge#74. I can be reached at StephenJValentine@compuserve.com

Dear Brothers, My name is Chad E. Simpson and I am a Master Mason and Asst. Educational Officer of the North Baltimore Lodge # 561, Ohio F. & A. M. I am also a graduate student in history and German at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green Ohio. I have the opportunity to research Prince Hall Freemasonry as the main focus of my semester research project for a graduate history course entitled Aspects of African American History. Along with reading various histories of Prince Hall Freemasonry, including Black Square and Compass, I have tried to locate writings by M. W. Bro. Prince Hall himself, believing one of the best and most accurate ways to come to know and understand such a man would be to read his written word. I have obtained copies of his Charges from 1792 and 1797. I have also read that in the mid to late 19th century M.W. Bro. Hall's 'Letter Book' was found and is said to be in possesion of the M.W. P.H. Grand Lodge of Mass. I unfortunately have not been able to confirm this. If any Brother could provide me with information about this 'Letter Book' or about additional examples of M.W. Bro Hall's writings, I would be greatly indebted to you. I am also sincerely interested in subscribing to this research society. However, I am not sure as to how I should go petitioning or subscribing. Thank you for you assistance in these matters. Fraternally and sincerely yours, Chad E. Fraternal greetings from England. It is a mystery to me how any person can purport to be part of the brotherhood of Freemasons and to have seen the Light, and yet accept racial divisions among lodges. I for one would never visit any lodge operating under a Grand Lodge which did not recognise the equivalent Prince Hall Grand Lodge. Let us hope that the natural tendency of Masonry to inculcate the principles of honour and virtue will prevail before too long. Bro Tim Blakemore PPrJGD (Warwickshire).

Brethren, you have a fine site and one which I shall recommend to all my brothers. Like so many others, I advocate and pray for the day when our respective Grand Lodges will admit that we should all greet one another with the five points of fellowship. The Prince Hall Masons are like a breath of fresh air! As a member of the F&AM who happens to be a white human being, why should I recognize the Prince Hall Masons as Masons when they don't need to be recognized? Thanks for being, and best wishes in your "travels." -Paul Vitartas

Brothers,
I found the site refreshing and intriguing. I have moved to several locations, and have found the Craft waivering in its content and dedication. I have been in the wilderness for too long, and have become rusty in my work. I am taking steps toward brightening the light that I do have, and seeking more in the future. I will be contacting the organization for further intruction and guideance.

Excellent website. I enjoyed reading about our distinguished brethren in the Notes.
When I was raised to the Sublime degree of Master Mason a few years ago, I was honored by the presence of the three principle officers of King David Lodge in Milwaukee. I became a Mason at a stone quarry in Wisconsin. Altogether it was one of the most impressive experiences of my life. There is but one Masonry. Fraternally, Dennis W. Second <recorded> visit and again another compliment for a fine Masonic website, Prince Hall or 'George Washington'. The 'Unity Banquet' held by the Right Worshipful Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania nd the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania early in August was another fine example of brethren sitting together; when we break bread together it becomes harder to break other things between us. Though you might like to have a citation of a book which is recently out of print, but still available, at least so I am told. Joseph Mason Andrew Cox's book "Great Black men of Masonry 1723-1982", a useful addtion to the common 'Denslow' reference. Greetings from the city where 'Mother' Bethel AME and St. Thomas AE Church are located, both having suitable museum citations regarding Bros. Rev Richard Allen and PGM Rev Absolom Jones. Phialdelphia is rich in Masonic history, and we ALL need to share it. Bro Brian Fegely Montgomery Lodge #19 RWGLofPA and Benjamin Franklin Chapter of the Philalethes Society. GREETINGS! I'VE ENJOYED YOUR WONDERFUL WEBSITE. BEING A NON-PRICE HALL MASON IT IS VERY SAD THAT WE AS A HUMAN-RACE CAN NOT ALL COME TOGETHER. WE AS BLACK MEN SHOULD SIT DOWN/TALK ABOUT THIS ISSUE OF BEING PRICE HALL OR NON-PRICE HALL. THE PURPOSE SHOULD BE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MEN AND SOCIETY. LETS ALL COME TOGETHER ONE DAY. ALL BLACK LODGES PHA/AF&AM SHOULD SOLVED THERE ISSUES. THEN WE HAS MEN SHOULD SIT DOWN WITH THE WHITE BROTHERS AND COME UP WITH A COMMON CAUSE-TO SOLVE SOME OF THE ISSUES THE HUMAN RACE IS HAVING"RACISM". WHEN WE GET TO HEAVEN-THERE WILL BE A SECTION FOR PRINCE HALL MASONS,NON-PRICE HALL MASONS, AND WHITE BROTHERS. THANK YOU.

I am researching Charles L. Thomas a member of the "colored Masons" as it it quoted in his obituary of Oct.12,1909 in the Neenah Daily Times. He was born in Richmond,Va in Dec. 1849 and was a barber. He was married to my Aunt, Sylvia Frink Montgomery Thomas. Is there any history of him in your organization. Can you research these things or are they secret. I look forward to hearing from you as I find this man very compelling. Sincerely,Ernest Frink frinke@kos.net
I am afraid you will not be able to clearly distinguish my email address it is: frinke@kos.net for any information on Charles L. Thomas 1849--1909 Thank you.
Bro Walkes, I have long admired your writing and information that you have provided to the members of the craft. I have an ambition to become a member of this organization and wish to know what would it take to become a published writer within the society.

In the past I thought a freemason was simply a someone who worked in the brick laying field, but now its more clear that it is more than that. A devotion to being a better man and human being. As a fairly new Master Mason at Clovis Lodge #40, in Clovis, New Mexico, my interest in Masonic History is enormous. The details of the life of Prince Hall, presented on your web site, are extremely compelling. I am a "white mason" who wasn't aware of the "two different lodges" until after I had been raised. New Mexico, I am proud to say, has finally accepted Prince Hall Masonry. Your website is extremely informative and intuitive. I will return often. P.S. The New Mexico Prince Hall Masons performance of ritual is staggering and a sight to behold.
Greetings, I am in search of the travels My Great Grandfather had as a Prince Hall Freemason .during the 1920's and 30's. His name is Ferdinand Stevens and I found a certificate dated Jan,10 5922 from Staten Island lodge 59. and a card inentifing him as a sublime prince 33deg of the King David Consistory No.3 . I have been told he travelled alot of the northern Mid west working to open lodges. how do I research his masonic travels .

good evening, brothers!!! i am Past Master steven e. Earl, hailing from Eastern Light Lodge #46, MWPHGLof PA. I have read Joseph Walkes' Prince Hall Quiz Book and Light on a dark Subject. Since reading you, Bro. Walkes, I have to say I have become a Masonic Militant. Early in my career, I wondered with tears why my white brethren did not accept me. Now I know why, and today I AM A PROUD PRINCE HALL MASON. I highly approve of the new definitions you have suggested with regards to clandestine lodges. Are there really any? Again, many thanks to you. I have probably read your works at least 3-4 times and refer to them regularly. I hope to become a member of a research lodge and someday meet you personally. Thank you again.

Hello. My name is Wayne A. Morris and I am the Director of Masonic Education and Culture for the State of PA. I have enjoyed all of the information that I have read so far. I also was given the Phylaxix magazine to read by one of my lodge brothers. I am interested in joining and will send money soon. Seems that there are brethren around that want to propetuate the real purpose of Prince Hall and the true meaning of Masonry.
To all of my Brethren who have taken the time to pull up our Phylaxis Society web page, I am grateful to you and the kind expressions that you have given to our efforts. Our only goal is to help educate the craft worldwide, concerning Prince Hall Freemasonry. We are not a Masonic body, but rather an international historical, literary, research organization interested in Prince Hall Freemasonry in particular and universal Freemasonry in general. I do hope each and evey one who pulls up this site will join with us in our efforts, by joining the Phylaxis Society, and help us accomplish our goals. Fraternally yours, Joseph A. Hello Brethren,
I am Bro. Isaacs, MPS, and PM, Crispus Attucks Lodge No. 24m, MWPHGL, Jurisdiction of Massachusetts. By all means read the article about Prince Hall by George Draffen of Newington FPS. I am of the opinion that it is one of the most defining articles on the subject, as they say "this is the real skinny".
By the way how about this site and web page? Many thanks to those who put forth the time and effort to produce it.

I am looking forward to one day joining your organization with my cousin who is also interested, but he doesn't have the accessibility I have in owning a computer if you could, could you us in written literature and whatever else you care to send to help us understand more about your organization, so that we can join into a Fraternity of brethern with some of our friends who have Masons for years. Thanks Stevan rogers 182 Roslyn st. Buffalo,N.Y. 14215 & Gerry Smith 182 Roslyn st. Buffalo,N.Y.
I came across your web site whilst browsing masonic links and have enjoyed it. Many misconceptions about Prince Hall masons are unfortunately held by my brothers. Perhaps one day we will all be able to call each other friend and brother, regardless of race. I believe it will happen, in time. John Coan AF&AM

My sincere greetings and best wishes to all of my Prince Hall Brethren ! I am proud to say that I am a Mason in large part today because of the kindness and friendship shown me by a Prince Hall Past master several years ago. I was most pleased when my own Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania formally recognized Prince Hall Grand Lodge, an action long overdue. It is my wish and prayer that in ways both large and small our joint efforts can heal some of the terrible racial animosity in America today and that our beloved Craft can help more and more men see themselves as Sons of God and Brothers for eternity. May God bless you today and always.

I just wanted to drop a line in to say that I really enjoyed this site about PHF&A.M ( with respect )although I am not a Mason myself. I am thinking about asking to join, but before I do, I decided to research the "Pro's and Con's" if you will, concerning Freemasonary; both the positive and negative opinions. I sincernly hope that all P.H Masons become recognized as true brothers of Freemasonary. For Mason or no, we are all brothers regardless. Thank You, Julian Marris..

I really enjoyed visiting the Phylaxis Society web site.
I have been a member of the Phylaxis since 1977. But I am not current with my dues. I am currently living in Korea with my family and would like to become active again. Please send me information on how to become active again.
Again It was truly a blessing to see that you and the members of the Phylaxis are still searching and sharing information about Prince Hall Freemasonry. Warmest regards,

My Brothers,
My name is Bro Ernest Price King David Lodge #15, 5th Masonic District, Trenton, NJ. The web site is fantastic but I came here because I have a question. I'm trying to research my own families Masonic history particularly that of my father. I have very limited information on on father's Masonic involvement. This is what I know or at least what my mother told me. My father's name is Lloyd C. Price Sr. He served in the military 26 years. He became a Mason while in the military and during the Korean War. He retired from the militray in 1969 in Trenton NJ and attended a lodge in the NJ possibly the 5th Masonic district but not sure which lodge. The only masonic items I have of his are a couple of aprons and sets of gloves. No documents. My, mother said he was Prince Hall but he could have been International. He's orginally from Madison West Virgina. I've just begun checking the roles in the 5th district. My question Brothers is how would you suggest I find his Masonic affiliation or any information? Any suggestions would be most appricated. I can be reached at eprice@ets.org or eprice56@prodigh.net.
Your Brother in Masonary and Christ,
Ernest C. Price

Alafia to All It would be excellent if we could spend so much energy on re-establishing authentic African ways of worship[ and esoteric knowledge that stares us right in the face just as sure as we look in the mirror daily. A new error of new and younger thinkers is ushering in and we have a new understanding of culture.

Dear Brethren of Prince Hall Masonry! I'm very glad to salute you all and send my sincerely hopes for your complete union with all the Masonic family around the world. One of the most important principles of Freemasonry I'd learned when I was admitted is that a man only needs to be free to be a mason, independently of his race, religion or political thoughts. I'm sure that this idea is in the mind of mostly masons, and we all have to fight everyday to turn it into a reality. I am the antichrist and have come to destroy your feeble excuse of a society.
Brother Walkes must be a very busy man, what with the Phylaxis magazine and web site. Comined Grand Lodges of N.D. & S.D. have a Re-enactment Lodge. It was at Fort Sisseton last year and will be this year as well. I have suggested a future program of PH masonry in the Dakotas. If you should come across any proven masonic activity by the 25th Infantry or 10th Cavalry in the Dakota, please bring it to my attention. I have probablt informed you that my good friend David Collins, SGW of PHA Minnesota, is now a member of our Fargo Daylight Lodge. I visited with another good friend G.M. For Many years Freemasonary has been in my family but i'm not sure if it's a thing that should continue. I;ve heard all sorts of things about free masonary which aren't good for example that masons worship the devil although i don'nt think this is the case it looks to me like it's a number of differnt religions in one and i reaaly dilike reliogious organistations there after one thing money.

Dear Bretheren: Greetings; It has taken me a great deal of searching, but as we are taught 'Seek and ye shall find, knock and the door will be open, ask and it shall be given to you' The light is always brightest when one looks in the direction of the beam. You are truly in the East. Perhaps I was bearing toward the Northeast. I am highly interested in obtaining more improvement in the pathway of further Prince Hall enlightenment. I believe that this point will lead us to the true development toward the historical mysteries recognizing the true birthright started by the G.A.O.T.U. handed directly to our forefathers starting with the four siblings, Jabal, Jubal, Naamah and more importantly Tubal-cain. Over the millinea the stolen legacies perhaps diluted as they may have become resurfaced across the waters to regenerate themselves in 1717. Perhaps in the grand scheme of His divine wisdom just as we have been scattered throughout the world as His original man, and specifically into this land, the G.A.O.T.U. will reveal the true mysteries associated with the original intent of His magnificent moral Geometry. I waited it seems like a life time to finally see PH and all the freemasonry lodges in the world come together as brothers. As a freemason and PM of my lodge it really makes me feel good to see Brothers now visiting each others lodges as it should have been long long ago.I have had many friends who were PH brothers and was unable to sit in lodge with them.I am glad to see this site on the web and read all the comments. Keep up the good work!

I am a member of the Grand Lodge of Michigan. And an interested student of Masonry. When I found this Web Site I was excited! Much to my Wife's consternation I spent the last two hours printing all of the Phylaxis Notes that you have on the site. I will read them during my stay in the hospital for double knee repacement. God Bless you and may Brotherly love prevail.
