The Festival Jewel
A bar, featuring the head and antlers of a stag representing the ancient deer forests of Nottinghamshire, surmounting an oval within which is featured the Major Oak, famous the world over in Sherwood Forest, oak leaves and an acorn. A design full of symbolism. The Jewel has an outer metal line around the outside green enamel. The letters are in gold on green enamel. The tree trunk is brown enamel with the leaves and treetop in amber enamel. The inscription "2007 Festival" is in gold with amber enamel background, whilst the background to the centre of the Jewel is polished gold metal. The ribbon is in the colours of the Masonic Samaritan Fund and carries a decorative bar with the title Steward. The higher honorifics will be marked by additional bars to the Jewel. It is hoped that this Jewel will become a collectors item but, in order to purchase one, it is first necessary to become a steward of the 2007 Festival Appeal. Currently, the Stewards Fee set for each of the four principal Masonic Charities within the English Constitution is £50. Nottinghamshire Brethren will be able then to purchase the Jewel, if desired, for £15 but Brethren outside the Province are asked to pay £20 to include postage and packaging. Thus for a total of £70 a Freemason anywhere outside of the Province of Nottinghamshire can make a valuable contribution to a very worthwhile cause, which will be gratefully received and faithfully applied, and also own a delightful Jewel as a memento of his spirit of generosity. A non Mason may subscribe for a Jewel by becoming a Steward of the Festival for a donation of £25 , plus £20 for the Jewel - a total of £45 (which includes postage and packaging). As can be seen in the table of honoifics a Lady or Lewis from within the Province of Nottinghamshire can become a Steward for a donation of £25 and purchase the Jewel for £15 - a total of £40. We are looking at providing a secure link for Brethren to order the Jewel over the Internet. But at present please contact the webmaster if you are interested in acquiring a Jewel. International enquires are encouraged. A Ladies Festival Brooch is in the design process and hopefully will be available during the autumn of 1999.
