The Glaxo Wellcome Prize and Lecture (1979) (1996)

The Royal Society Glaxo Wellcome Prize and Lecture is for original contributions to medical and veterinary sciences published within ten years from the date of the award. The prize, established initially by means of a donation from The Wellcome Foundation Limited, consists of a gold medal and a gift of £2500 and the recipient is called upon to deliver an evening lecture; a separate event in the form of a dinner or buffet supper takes place at Glaxo Wellcome the following day. The first award was made in 1980, the centenary year of The Wellcome Foundation, and is awarded biennially. The prize was renamed the Glaxo Wellcome Prize, following the merger of the two companies in 1995.
