The Copley Medal (1731)

This is the premier award of the Society. It is given annually for outstanding achievements in research in any branch of science. The award alternates between the physical and biological sciences. The medal is of silver gilt and there is also a gift of £2500. There are no limitations on the period in which the research achievements were made. It can also be awarded more than once to the same person at Council’s discretion.
