Born in 1930 After graduating from the Reykjavik College in 1949, she studied extensively at the University of Grenoble and Sorbonne in France, the University of Uppsala in Sweden and the University of Iceland; taught at Reykjavik College and at the University of Iceland; established the first training courses for tourists guides and the first theater group in Iceland; member of the Advisory Committee on Cultural Affairs in Nordic countries 1976-1980; President of Iceland 1980-1996; Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University 1996-present. |
