Other sources of Masonic information on the Internet.
Web sites:
With the Internet growing faster everyday, the fm-europe.org team
is no longer able to index all Freemasonry related sites. We will
limit ourselves to directory sites that we have found particularly
useful and well documented.
- Gomasonry: The
portal site for Freemasonry on the Internet.
Very comprehensive; a
must to anyone looking for information about Freemasonry on the
Internet (in English).
- The list of links collected by our friend, Jean-René.
A very comprehensive list of Masonic sites, indexed both by country
and languages.
Usenet forums
There are 4 Usenet Masonic discussion groups under the "alt." hierarchy.
Unfortunately, these groups being unmoderated, and Usenet having
become what it is, all of these groups are either dormant (the last
three of them) or filled with both commercial spams and anti-masonic
rantings and ramblings. We list them here for your information.
- alt.freemasonry
- alt.masonic.youth
- alt.masonic.members
- alt.graphics.freemasonry
To this day, only one Usenet group provides Masons and non-Masons
with a peaceful (mostly at least) and articulate discussion area:
This group is moderated, meaning that all posts are read and
approved (or not) by a moderation team before it's being posted to the
group. In English; has a mailing list gateway allowing users to
receive messages by mail, rather than having to download the Usenet
messages.
Mailing lists:
- French speaking:
- Open to all:
- To the best of our knowledge, the only one Freemasonry
related open mailing list available in French is
the one maintained by the Grand Lodge of France. This list is provided by the GL
to its monthly radio broadcast's listeners; focus changes
monthly with each broadcast's topic. Strongly moderated.
- For Masons only:
- The "Fraternelle des Internautes Francophones" (FIF) proposes several mailing-lists.
While writing these
lines, we're realizing that the French noun "Fraternelle" (a
substantival adjective, not the more common adjective
corresponding to "Fraternal" in English) would require an
explanation to most of our English speaking readers. Basically,
"Fraternelles" are Fraternal Associations, independent from Grand
Bodies, and usually gathering Masons with a common professional,
social, cultural interest. In that vein, "FIF" stands for
something meaning "Fraternal (Association) of the French Speaking
Internauts" in that case gathers French speaking Internet user
Masons.
- The "Mosaïques" Forum
- The National Grand Lodge of France (GLNF) also has its own
private mailing list, open only to GLNF members and members of
masonic bodies recognized by the GLNF.
- English speaking lists:
There are many English speaking
Masonic mailing lists, ranging from local and/or parochial to
international and open to all lists such as the Freemasonry List
www.chrysalis.org/masonry (or
http://www.mastermason.com/letters/fmlinfo.htm).
http://members.aol.com/glofnj/maillist.htm is another starting
point to find information about specific lists.
- German speaking lists:
There are at least two German speaking mailing lists, one open to all,
the other open only to members of Masonic Grand Bodies recognized by the United Grand Lodges
of Germany. For more info, please read :
http://freimaurer.org/gl_afam/m_list.htm
- Italian speaking lists:
- The Pietre Stones mailing list: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/8291/star.html or http://www.egroups.com/group/pietre-stones/ (members only).
- Other European languages
There are other lists available in several European languages. For
more information about available mailing lists, please start your
search on usual search engines. You may also try a search on Masonic
Usenet groups using the "dejanews"
advanced search box. Last, try to post a message (in English) on
soc.org.freemasonry.
