The Lodge, the primary and fundamental body of the Community, is the self-governing and sovereign Collectivity of the Freemasons, ritually and regularly constituted to carry out the Masonic Works. It is the depositary of the Freemason Tradition, in observance of the Order Constitution and Regulation. (art. 16th of the Constitution) The Lodge is made up of Brothers, registered in the roll of the same Lodge. The name "Lodge" comes, symbolically, from the place where, in the medieval erecting yards, masons used to gather together to discuss the building plans of the cathedrals raised to the glory of God. The Lodge is, therefore, the place where Masons gather in assembly to work together for the fulfilment of the project concerning their own and other's improvement, in harmony with the project of Life. The project is conceived and lived in sacral way. For these reasons the Lodge is sometimes called Temple, as a symbol of the Sacral interior work, which leads to the realization of the project. Sometimes, the Lodge is also called Workshop, as symbol of the work that is carried out within it. |
