Each of us lives accompanied by the interior sensation that there must be a meaning and a purpose in our life. We cannot make a distinction between the purpose of our life and the global finality of the Life that surrounds us. Such sensation is quite often vague and unexpressed, but, as imperceptible as it can be, it does exist. It represents one the strongest forces which help us to carry on with our life, also and above all through particularly difficult moments. It is impossible to prove the existence of such sensation. The explanation of a biological purpose in Life, in which there is no room for our individuality, appears meaningless. The assumption of a Life without purpose is deeply repugnant to us. This is a fact and it is true for each man. It is the totality of the living beings that constitutes Life. As we are projected towards the interior research, we believe that it is right to go along this path and we are convinced that self-knowledge can give us a better understanding of the finalities to which we aspire, and through them, establish a syntony with the wider purposes of Life itself. |
