The Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to build just and peaceful societies in Central America.THE PROGRAMS
In order to accomplish its mission, the Arias Foundation works through three Centers: the Center for Organized Participation, the Center for Human Progress and the Center for Peace and Reconciliation.

HISTORY
In accepting the 1987 Nobel Prize for Peace, former president of Costa Rica, Dr. Oscar Arias Sánchez, pledged to dedicate the monetary value of the award to the promotion of peace and development in Central America. Consequently, in 1988 the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress was founded.
In the words of the founder,
"the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress cannot turn a neutral face to our history and our future. The peace that we enjoy today must be passed, stronger than before, to future generations. But that will depend on the courage and the imagination with which we defend our values, and on the justice that we are willing to guarantee to those who suffer from lonliness and poverty".
The Arias Foundation has an endowment from the 1987 Nobel Prize for Peace. In addition, it has received grants from the following public and private organizations:
